Carbonarium – The Story of Coal Told Through Light

Carbonarium, part of the Institute of Heritage and Dialogue – Łaźnia Moszczenica, is a unique four-story multimedia exhibition where coal takes centre stage. The display guides visitors through the origins of coal, its presence in nature, and its modern industrial applications. Through multimedia installations, virtual reality, models, and interactive elements, the exhibition allows visitors not only to see but also to experience the story of this extraordinary resource.

Light plays a key role here, shaping the atmosphere and creating a narrative within the atmospheric spaces of the exhibition. The dark, raw interiors emphasize the nature of coal, while lighting becomes a sculptural element — building rhythm, depth, and contrast. Carefully designed light accents highlight material textures, creating a play of light and shadow that perfectly enhances the character of the space.

The project features Luxcan C projectors mounted on tracks, providing precise accent lighting that guides the eye and highlights key exhibition elements. Complementary luminaires such as X-Line LED Compact and Beryl Surface deliver general lighting for interiors and corridors, blending harmoniously with the architectural design.

A particularly striking feature is the installation inspired by the chemical structure of coal, created using X-Line LED Compact luminaires arranged in a creative geometric composition. This luminous structure symbolizes carbon’s atomic bonds, merging science and art into a cohesive visual experience.
