Training and Research Centre of the Regional Medical Chamber in Gdańsk

The Training and Research Centre of the Regional Medical Chamber in Gdańsk, designed by the TOPROJEKT architectural studio from Rybnik, is a unique project that was selected as a finalist of the “Polityka” Architectural Award. The project represents contemporary architecture that consciously combines the scale of a large complex with a subtle integration into the villa-style character of Gdańsk’s Aniołki district.

The complex consists of two complementary buildings: the main conference and hotel pavilion and the more intimate Areopagus building. The entire project was designed with a focus on harmony between form and material – the characteristic seamless transition of the roof into the façade, made of hand-laid brick and ceramic tiles, gives the building a sense of lightness and a natural impression of “growing” out of its surroundings. The project used 95,000 individually hand-laid bricks and 125,000 ceramic roof tiles.

The main building houses a multifunctional conference hall for 300 people, a hotel area with 50 accommodation places, as well as a restaurant and catering facilities. Located nearby, the Areopagus building contains a library and spaces for intimate meetings and cultural events. From the Areopagus level, stairs lead to the reception area, gym and bowling alley, creating a coherent educational and recreational space.

An integral part of the project is the comprehensive lighting concept developed by LUXIONA, which emphasizes the architectural character of the entire complex. The main element of the lighting design is the X-LINE family of linear luminaires, used throughout most of the interior spaces – from the lobby, reception and office areas, through circulation zones and conference rooms, to sports facilities, the Areopagus building and the hotel area. Special luminaire configurations were developed to match the specific ceiling structures used in the project.

Various luminaire versions, including Low UGR models with reduced glare and direct-indirect light distribution versions, provide high visual comfort, uniform illumination and a consistent, coherent aesthetic throughout the entire building.

The installation is complemented by BERYL and X-WALL luminaires, used in corridors, bathrooms and hotel rooms, enhancing the functionality and comfort of the lighting. In the representative Areopagus area – the library and meeting space – the linear lighting systems are complemented by LUXCAN ZOOM spotlights, which create lighting accents and highlight the unique form and character of the interior.

In the sports areas, X-LINE luminaires were used predominantly, while technical rooms feature NEPTUN luminaires, ensuring high durability and reliability in more demanding operating conditions.

The outdoor lighting also plays an important role, organizing the space around the buildings and emphasizing their unique architecture. The KUBIK luminaire family illuminates circulation routes, entrance areas and the surroundings of the facility, creating a clear and safe spatial structure.

Particular attention should be paid to the customized KUBIK CEILING LONG LED luminaires, integrated into the canopies and installed in the recessed sections of the roofs. They create a unique floating effect, giving the building additional lightness and visual elegance.

The composition is complemented by MINI UP and FASAD ODL04 luminaires, highlighting the greenery and existing trees, as well as KUBIK POLE columns and UNIVERSAL LINE OUTDOOR luminaires, which ensure safety and comfort after dark. As a result, the lighting not only supports the functionality of the facility but also enhances the atmosphere of the gardens and emphasizes the unique character of the entire architectural and landscape concept.

The project was completed by TOPROJEKT in cooperation with the general contractor ALLCON and ELEKTRO-INSTALL, responsible for the electrical installation works.
