The park at the Warsaw Uprising Mound spans nearly 10 hectares of unique green space in Mokotów. Constructed in 1945 from wartime rubble, the Mound has become a symbol of both the city’s destruction and its rebirth. Following a revitalization of the surrounding area—designed by the topoScape and Archigrest studios—the park reopened in 2023.
The project’s authors successfully combined historical symbolism with spontaneous ecosystems of “fourth nature” and sustainable development principles. The park now features nature trails, elevated walkways, recreational zones, and a distinctive aesthetic. Its unique character is emphasized by raw rubble-concrete walls, rust-colored steel gabions, and metal mesh, all harmonizing with wild vegetation and newly designed nature paths.
The lighting provided by Luxiona—discreet yet expressive—was carefully designed to highlight the raw textures and colors of the rubble concrete and gabions, while preserving the park’s peaceful, calming atmosphere. Above the ravines, ATENA LINE V3 OUTDOOR LED luminaires suspended on cables cast soft bands of light along the slopes. Park alleys, walking paths, and the stairs leading to the Mound are illuminated by Kubik IN LED and Fasad Floor luminaires, creating subtle light rhythms and a unique ambiance after dark.
The LED light sources used in the luminaires combine high energy efficiency with long service life and minimalist design. As a result, the park’s lighting meets the highest ecological standards while also enhancing the emotional experience of the space.
At the heart of the Mound is a summit square with a viewing terrace and a monument—the symbol of Fighting Poland. Beginning on August 1st, this monument is illuminated for 63 consecutive days with dynamic RGB lighting. The animated lights, set against the rusted structure and surrounding greenery, create a moving and almost meditative experience.
In 2024, the “Burza” Park received the European Prize for Urban Public Space. Co-financed by EU funds, the project also earned the Grand Prix of the Architectural Award of the Mayor of Warsaw and the Grand Prix of the Polityka Architecture Award. The park was additionally recognized by the Gazeta Wyborcza’s "Designed for People – Good Neighborhoods" initiative, and it won first prize in the European Garden Heritage 2025 competition in the category of Climate Adaptation Measures in Parks and Gardens.
We are proud that LUXIONA lighting is an integral part of this exceptional project.
